Stanley Preiser was considered to be one of “the best” trial lawyers of the 20th Century by those who knew him. They described him as one of the last great trial lawyers who could handle a criminal defense case at the start of the week and end Friday afternoon handling a personal injury suit. He had received most every accolade available to a trial lawyer, including the top awards for accomplishments from the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Melvin Belli International Law Society. He was often referred to as the “George Washington of West Virginia personal injury litigators,” for his commitment to educating young lawyers and for helping to found and guide new areas within the American Trial Lawyers Association (ATLA). Preiser authored numerous books and articles on trial preparation, including his ground-breaking book on medical malpractice cases “Preparing and Winning Medical Negligence Cases.”
