Edward Bennett Williams
Williams & Connelly
Edward Bennett Williams was one of the first in the country to be described as a “Super Lawyer”. He was able to captivate juries by speaking for hours at times, without the aid of any notes, and recall with complete accuracy names, dates, and events. He is known for representing many powerful players in both the world of entertainment and in the power circles of Washington, D.C., in addition to some of the most hardened criminals of his time. He represented many high profile clients, including John Hinckley, Jr., Frank Sinatra, Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner, spy Igor Melekh, Jimmy Hoffa, organized crime figure Frank Costello, U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy, corporate raider Victor Posner, the Washington Post newspaper and the Reverend Sun Myung Moon. It was said that Williams largely stayed out of politics, but that those in power often sought his advice on the issues of the day. And while he rarely chose a side in the political arena, it was said that he always remained in good favor with the current occupant of The White House.
